What on earth could that be, I hear you say? Yes, there is a well known condition in women that is causing much ongoing misery and has been doing so for a long time. It's a well known fact that many women suffer much pain and discomfort because of the badly fitting bras that they wear. In fact, surveys have revealed that up to 80 percent of women wear the wrong size bra. So next time you pull on your bra just give some thought to the less fortunate ladies out there.
In fact it is probably a combination of badly fitting bras as well as increasing breast sizes over the past 10 to 15 years that is to blame for this problem. And it's interesting to note that the increase in women's breast sizes has not been just because of an increase in female obesity, because the trend is also present in younger and non-obese women.
The symptoms of the badly fitting bra syndrome can be diverse and very uncomfortable to live with.
One problem can be the bra straps that are digging into a woman's shoulders and leave red marks as well as causing neck and shoulder pain. This is often due to a bra that does not offer enough support. Then there is the discomfort caused by breast tissue overflowing the bra due to the bra cup size being too small. This 'overflow' can happen under the armpit, below the bra cups or over the top of the bra cups and can cause many unsightly bulges as well.Small cup sizes can also cause the underwire to poke the wearer under the armpit. And band sizes that are too large can cause the band to ride up on the woman's back, or they can dig into the flesh at the back, which means the band may be too small.
A poor fitting bra will cause a woman to be continually readjusting her bra and this is a sure sign that a bra could be causing discomfort or pain. Often the band could feel tight and a woman will increase her band size when in fact the problem is that the cups are too small. So instead of increasing her band size the lady in question should be increasing her cup size. On the other hand, cups that are too big will make the band feel too loose and then the wearer of the bra will not get enough support. This can again lead to other symptoms like backache, shoulder pain or neck pain.
So it's obvious that there is much to learn when it comes to choosing the bra size that is the correct one for you. And things are made even more difficult by the confusion that reigns across the board when choosing the correct bra size. This is caused by a lack of standardization between different brands and even between different countries when it comes to bra sizes.
